Over the years I have collected many thoughts, ideas, information, documents, etcetera that greatly assist in understanding insurance tax issues.

When they get involved in insurance tax, people often ask me where to start.

Until recently I have not been able to give them a useful or valuable starting point.

Often, I would refer them to the Income Tax Act, but, when it comes to insurance tax, that is somewhat meaningless on its own.

That is why I decided to build this platform.

The main purpose is to assist those who need an understanding of the long-term insurance industry, specifically with regards to tax related issues, so that they can have a starting point.

And to make information available.

Perhaps it can be seen as an “Introduction to Life-Insurance Insurance Tax” or an “Insurance Tax Training Manual”.

For those who have been in the industry for some time, it can be seen as a refresher, and should be a good source of reference.

The indexing system should assist you to find things that you are looking quickly and easily. (Obviously I cannot guarantee completeness in all respects, but I will attempt to address all relevant issues.)

Due to the fact that principles apply across the board, there are many tax issues that are universal and apply to all entities.

This platform should never be seen as a complete source of reference or as legal or other advice.

I share my thoughts and ideas, but you should always do your own research as well.

You should always confirm that sections of acts referred to are still relevant and up to date, and if you read a historic article, please check whether everything in the article is still relevant.

Sometimes I will place a historic article that addresses a principle, but certain areas may have been amended over the years.

Things change very quickly, but often the underlying principles referred to remain unchanged.

Some information on this site may be available elsewhere, but here I shall endeavour to make it easy to find specific information at the proverbial “click of a button”. Whenever I know the source of the information I shall refer thereto.

I also do whatever I can do obtain copyright permission. If you come across something that you believe is incorrectly referenced, please let me know.

I have decided to make use of this platform for a couple of reasons, including the following:

1. It is easy to navigate.
2. I believe the information on this platform, if used appropriately, can save any person or company thousands of rands and many hours.
3. Many companies will probably have or have access to some of the information on this platform, but often when there is staff turnover, or other issues, valuable information goes missing, or is placed where it is not easily accessible or readily available. Due to this, new staff members sometimes struggle to find their feet.
4. Training and CPD are crucial elements in any company these days and this platform should assist companies and individuals in that regard.
